Re: What's for lunch???
This past month I have taken advantage of that Subway 5 dollar footlong. That is a deal no matter how ya slice it. I try to stay away from the fast food, In the hot summer days I freeze bottles of water and drink em up as they melt.

Re: What's for lunch???
I pack a sandwich and eat more fruits instead of sweets. I also tend to favor salty snacks in the hotter weather that we tend to have here in the South. We had a guy that moved out here from Arizona, and he complained about the heat. I'll also freeze water and drink it as it melts.

Re: What's for lunch???
I keep a 3 gallon thermos full of some kind of gatorade usually. I buy a bag of ice and put it in to keep it cool throughout the day.
As far as lunch goes I'm a big subway fan or I like to stop at a local sandwich place and get a small sandwich. I try to avoid the fast food as much as possible...although an arby's roast beef is sometimes irresistible. :)

Re: What's for lunch???
Yea, them fast food joints are hard to drive by when ya have the munchies, I love Hardies biscuits and gravy in the morning. A buddy of mine from time to time will meet up at a lunch buffet, (pizza, chinese)
Man is it hard to go back to work after that, KFC has a killer lunch buffet..... Man I can hear my belt streaching just thinking about it!!! Cant forget about Taco Bell or Taco Johns, Not once have I asked to use a customers bathroom however, I have made the excuse that I had to run a co-worker a part and run off looking for the nearest gas station or porta-potty...LOL

We try to order lunch for the guys and have them all back to the shop for lunch and then they can load up with 2-3 more and go home when finished. I dont push my guys to much in the summer.

Re: What's for lunch???
What about roach coaches?? Those fine mobile dining establishments have not even been mentioned yet
Good ones are indeed hard to find. In my area most are owned or at least leased by Vietnamense or Chinese operators. The food especially the proponderence of fried food would upset even the most cast iron of stomachs or at worst cause immediate cardiac failure. There is an irony seeing Asian heritage cooks trying to make good American or Mexican food. Doesn't happen
However I have found a Mexican roach coach that makes great food. The carne asade quesidillias are divine with red-hot home made salsa. This culinary coach must receive a few hundred phone-in orders a day. One watches in line as multiple orders get served.
In over twenty years of being around dealerships, this mobile masters of Mexican food is only the second one worthy of eating at. Hmmmmmm

Re: What's for lunch???
since we have the advantage of a dry heat( arizona) all we really need is plenty of water, but not to much, sunscreen, and long sleeves. as for lunch i usually stay away from greasy foods. sandshicks are always a favorite. the best end of the day meal is always some miso soup with a few rolls of sushi. cannot beat that.
i think the reason the guy from az that moved to the south hated it so much was the humidity. our days can reach 110-115 and the surface temps of cars can actually cook an egg. the great thing it is a dry heat.

Re: What's for lunch???
now that i think about, the best thing to eat for lunch during the hot summer months is a good seafood cocktail. not the lame red lobster type ones, but the traditional south of the border( mexican type) boiled shirmp, ceviche( shripe cooked in lime juice) scalops, and squid. these are combined in huge cup/bowl with a broth(cold) made of clamato soy sause and some spices. now that i think about it i now what i am eating for lunch.

Re: What's for lunch???
Now come on,DT guyz around here get $18.00 an hour to start..So I know with that type of pay you can get someting off the dollar menu(lol).........I remember one day it was hotter then a summer day in florida in front of the grill and I pulled into a 7 eleven and got me a slurpee.I drank that sucka down so quick that I experience a brain freeze for the 1st time...(lol)...Wow what a headache that was.lol...........Sushi is great for after work...Gotta love a god piece of Torro or tuna roll with seaweed salad and just plain cold water to wash it down for the next selection......It was 74 degree's up here today and most of use was in shorts by 11.00am ....................
We've got a lunch truck that serves a wicked philly style cheese steak sandwich...MMMMMmmmmm.It owned by middle eastern people.....Im not too sure how Halal it is....

I used to try to kill myself with a chemical cocktail of caffeine, nicotine and ephedrine. Gave up on that a few years ago and try to sustain my body on water and healthy food(yech). Taco Johns is the best! Especially for curing a hangovers!
