Complete junk. New at dealer is the only way to go.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

I've put a few of these in. They are definitely cheap and are always made in China (go figure). Since the customer supplies them, it's on them not me and I tell the customer that we don't warranty them. If it's up to me, I'll go the dealer every time.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

Same here...I generally let the customer get their own part unless they agree to go dealer. I do the job but offer no warranty if they supply the part. That goes for glass too...if they supply it they warranty it.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

Has anyone tried the regulators from PPG? I know they are aftermarket but I was curious.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

We have put in 10-20 aftermarket regulators, 2 or 3 differant manufacturers and no comebacks. you can make money on these jobs, the most important thing is checking closely for other problems that will break the reg. The factory ones are not that great and the price can be unreal. The biggest problem in the northeast is when the doorglass is frozen and the customer tries to make it go down. my guess is that there are a lot less broken regs in the warmer areas.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

I have to agree with Dave, a lot of dealer regs are same quality as aftermarket. Heck, for all we know they're probably built in the same 3rd world factory. For the price, you have to go aftermarket.

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

I guess I'll third that. Have put in about 15-20 Grand Am regs aftermarket. Never an issue. (knock on wood!)
Some of the Gr Am regs require a new motor from the dealer since they changed how the gears match up. One is silver and one is black. Not interchangeable. If I remember correct, new motor is about $250 and the reg is about $200 from the dealer. In order to get new reg from dealer, you have to get the new motor also.
Aftermarket come with motor already attached and RETAIL for a little over $100 with a lifetime warranty. (on the reg) Dealer offers 12 month/12K warranty.
unbelievable

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

we have had alot of defected ones. silverado rt side guy came back 3 times in 3 months. someimes the motors freeze up. I think that im gonna start selling them cheaper but selling as is. i cannot afford to redo them for free . i would have to say we probably put in 80 or so with 10 defected

Re: Aftermarket Regulators

Unbelievable,
If your going to go that route, why not guarantee the part but charge for labor. That way whenever someone comes back you can get paid for your time. I don't think the customer would mind, it's not your fault the reg is crap.
