Hi there. I just wanted to say that we got our first cat front declawed and I wish now that we hadn't. I did not realize what all went into the declawing process, and when I read an article about it I was totally heartbroken that we had done that to one of our babies. She was a clawing terror! We then found out about a product called Soft Paws (softpaws.com), and we think they are WONDERFUL! Basically what they are is little acrylic caps that fit over the cats nails and prevent them from clawing up our furniture etc. They come in clear, blue, red, purple, and pink. Our cats did not take long to get used to them at all, and they do not hurt the cat in any way, even if they would happen to eat one. They are $14.95 a pack I believe, and you get three full sets in one pack, plus the glue used to apply them. It took them a couple times to get used to us doing them, but now they dont mind at all really...just clip the tip off of their nail, put a small amount of glue in the cap, and put it on.

Replying to: It's interesting to visit this non-Swedish forum. I live in Sweden and visit frequently Swedish forums. De-clawing is forbidden by law and ther's a good reason behind the regulation; the procedure hinders the car's normal behaviour, climbing, and takes away the cats most important "weapon" to feel saf. I have two cats and expensive furniture but wouldn't declaw my cats for anything in the world, even if it was legal. I have a big schratchin and climbing furniture and my cats are #1 for me!
De-clawing is nothing but animal abuse!!!!!!!

Replying to: Article: There IS no good reason to remove a cat's claws! I certainly would not want to have my fingers amputated to the first joint. I have scratching posts and scratchy things for my cats, and they seldom use the furniture. When they try to, I just move 'em to a scratchy thing. =^..^= --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Replying to Original Article: Can anyone please explain to me why people think it is a good idea to remove their cat's claws? I found out about this practice when chatting on a animal rights forum. They said it was cos their cat/s damaged their furniture! |
