On Motivation

My motivation has dropped off completely. I'm not making it to class, i'm not doing any taiji, daoyin, cheng hsin practice, i'm not meditating or doing much of anything. Other hobbies have fallen away, i get hardly any exercise and dont eat too well.

I'm not really feeling depressed, but stressed and emotional often. Its annoying that i have no motivation because i know the internal arts would help, but i just cant seem to make that start.

I dont mean this to be about self pity however, rather me being honest about how i feel and inviting some discussion on the subject of motivation.

How do you motivate yourself? is it natural and not even a case of needing motivation? there have been times when it has been that way for me, perhaps you have been through a time like this: stuck in a rut, out of balance etc.

I feel as if i need a bit of help getting kick started, maybe some acupuncture would help? Mike can you recommend someone - i remember there is someone on walters road in swansea..
I have found homeopathy to be a great help before and often it is things like this or bach flower remedies that i utilise once and then forget about until the next bad time.

I had wondered about whether i should concentrate on my general fitness and build that up again - swimming, running perhaps, but maybe this is forcing things and not so daoist.

maybe it would be better to get up early each morning and walk in the woods and just breathe before building up to some daoyin each morning??

Like i say, i'm not after any pity or sympathy but would be happy if anyone had any thoughts to spare.

Re: On Motivation

Tommy,
I guess you have to have a goal to motivate yourself to begin with. I'm no expert on motivation by a long way but in my limited experience I need to visualise or see myself at some place or some level and then proceed to work towards it.

Maybe there's a certain skill you can see yourself performing well, or possibly you can see yourself being very flexible and strong (good motivation for this one is the sleeping buddha i find, hence the photo on the wall in the gym!!)

Where do you want to go? What would you aspire to? What kind of skill appeals to you? There's probably a whole bunch of other stuff going on too but maybe it's a start.

Would anyone else care to offer their experiences of motivation? What do you other guys do to get yourself up and running. Let us in to your secrets!

Hope this helps a little Tommy

Mike

the first one messes you up, the second starts to make sense?

motivation is a funny thing, its complex, it wasnt there, now its back.
